Retirement

I thought that when I retired, the writing life would be easier. I have nothing else to do all day, after all.

Was I ever wrong! For one thing, as an older person I am endowed with a miriad of new illnesses that are very time consuming. Diabetes, bad veins, thyroid dysfunction, the list is long, and rather than being cured I am assigned a myriad of care and maintenance procedures, tests and appointments that hog up the part of the day that I planned to devote to working. In addition to that, I am told that if I want to be heard I have to do a lot of my own marketing. That;s something that I am horrible at; it takes me hours a day to try to understand the information that I am reading about websites, SEO and social media. I so hope the day comes when I can afford to pay somebody else to do that part for me.

Sounds terrible, doesn't it? It's not all bad. I have recently found out that some of the 30 or so people that bought my first book still have it and still read it sometimes. I made a few new and unusual friends with my writing and that's a reason to be very happy, And I'm not dead yet, so I still have a chance to finish another. Cool beans!
